Show
me your way, Lord, and lead me on a level path. Psalms 27:11
Every day we wake up with a new morning, a new attitude and
a new path. The Lord gives us the opportunity every day to get up and start our
day by asking God, “What direction would you like me to go today, Lord?” I look
back on many days, how the Lord put something or someone in my path, but I was
too busy taking care of the things I needed to get done that I didn’t even
notice or it was just simply an inconvenience.
In the middle of the night I woke up to my husband sitting
in the living room and when I ask what he was doing he told me he had a lot on
his mind, work, kids, and life. So we sat up and talked about many things and as
we went to bed we knew that God would take care of the worries he had. Boy was
that a slap in the face, I looked back on my busy day and realized I didn’t
even ask my husband how work was and if he needed to unload and talk about
things that were going on in his life that day. God made me realize tonight
that He doesn’t just call us to encourage those who don’t know Him or even ones
we don’t know, but the person God wants us to take time for is our spouse and
children. Sometimes the people closest to us are the ones that need the
reminder of God’s love.
In John chapter 4 it speak of how Jesus stopped to talk to
the women at the well. This is a story that we all should know and have heard
many times as a child. Today I seemed to learn something that really hit home
for me.
In chapter 4 it talks about how Jesus was traveling from Judea
to Galilee
Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees
had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John 2 (though
Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), 3 He left
Judea and departed again to Galilee. 4 But He
needed to go through Samaria.
Jesus needed to go through Samaria. Why? He had an
appointment with the women at the well. She was a person He needed to share the
message of who He was even if it meant taking time out of his journey.
Isn’t it true that many times we are called to take a route
that isn’t always ideal for our circumstances? Work, kids previous commitments
are all things that keep us from taking that detour and making our appointment
that God has set aside for us. We need to be reminded that our detour may be in
our own household.
I encourage you to ask God to make you aware of the
appointments He has for you and to give you the desire to make them a part of
your day.
Wow! Thank you Lord for reminding me this week that as much
as you call me to reach the world, you also call me to encourage my spouse.
